February 2022 Message
Dear Stake,
Prophets have been counseling us to obtain a supply stored food since Brigham Young's day. Having food storage is a way to safeguard against hunger for you and your family in the event of a job loss, a natural disaster, or other unexpected setback. Because we cannot predict when an emergency may occur, it is good to be prepared -- but food storage can be daunting for some of us. How can we follow the prophet's counsel?
The church website has some excellent and simple instructions, and good advice, on how to create a food storage for your family.
How to start:
Build a short-term food supply by gradually buying a little bit of extra non-perishable food every time you go to the grocery store. Plan to have enough food for one day of extra meals. Build that up to 1 week, then 1 month, etc. Buy food that your family will eat but also don't be afraid to learn how to use basic staples such as whole wheat flour, dried beans, or canned vegetables.
As you go:
Start incorporating the food that you buy into your current meals so you can buy more, and rotate your food storage so that nothing expires. Also begin to build up a supply of personal hygiene products, water, and pet food, in addition to your basic food storage.
Remember:
Do not go into debt to have food storage, but only buy what you can. Also, not everyone has room to store lots of food – but we've heard of people finding a lot of creative places to stash food storage throughout their homes!
Some quantities of basic canned foods can be purchased at the church's welfare home storage center in Greensboro, or online. Below is the info for the Greensboro Welfare Home Storage Center – we suggest calling ahead before making a trip, to confirm hours of operation and current supplies.

Just as the ancient prophet Joseph was able to predict famines and help Pharaoh have enough food storage to keep his nation fed, thus also blessing his own family, we can follow the counsel of modern prophets and have food storage set aside for when we may need a “great deliverance” in our own lives. (Genesis 45:5-7)
Sincerely,
