For my Google Classroom assignment, I created a sample history lesson focused on early English settlers in America and 13 colonies, designed for 3rd grade students. The lesson introduces students to key groups like the Jamestown colonists, Pilgrims, and Puritans, and explores why they came to America, the challenges they faced, and the early foundations of colonial life.
The lesson included clear learning objectives, such as identifying the first English colony, explaining reasons for colonization, and comparing different colonial regions. Students engaged with the material through two short educational videos, followed by interactive activities: a matching worksheet for the 13 colonies, a mini research task where they chose a colony to explore in more detail, and a 15-question quiz for review and assessment.
This project helped me better understand how to use Google Classroom as a digital teaching tool. It allowed me to combine media, assignments, and assessments in a single platform while keeping the structure student-friendly and goal-oriented. The experience showed me how technology can support meaningful learning, by organizing lessons in a way that is accessible, engaging, and easy to navigate for both teachers and students.
