Business Administration Core (also called Principle) events are exclusively for first year members. Although first year members are not required to choose one of these as their events, they are a good way to get familiar with future Deca competition. Doing a principle event your first year will increase your chance of success in future competitions.
Possible events:
Principles of Business Administration and Management
Principles of Finance
Principles of Hospitality and Tourism
Principles of Marketing
Each of the above events accompany a written Business Administration core exam.
In these events, once you are given your role-play sheet, you have 10 minutes to prepare. Then, you have 10 minutes to present to a judge. For sample role-play sheets, visit the "Competition Resources" page.
If you prefer working by yourself, an individual series event may be the one for you. There are typically 5 clusters:
Marketing
Business Administration + Management
Hospitality + Tourism
Finance
Entrepreneurship
You can explore each of the different events that fall under these categories by using the button above. Each event accompanies the corresponding cluster exam.
In an individual series event, once you are given your role-play sheet, you have 10 minutes to prepare. Then, you have 10 minutes to present to a judge. For sample role-play sheets, visit the "Competition Resources" page.
If you enjoy collaborating and can work well with others, a TDM event consists of two people. The same clusters as Individual Series events apply, and an event can be chosen by clicking the button above. Each partner must take the exam that corresponds to the cluster of the event.
In Team Decision Making events, once you and your partner are given your role-play sheet, you have 30 minutes to prepare. Then, you have 15 minutes to present to a judge. For sample role-play sheets, visit the "Competition Prep Materials" page.
