Dr. Shelley Benton is a licensed psychologist in the State of Texas, where she has been providing psychological services in the Dallas area for over 20 years. She received her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Prior to receiving her doctorate, Dr. Benton also received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Master's degree in Education from Baylor University.
Dr. Benton has gained substantial expertise in many diverse areas and has multiple years of experience in many settings: private and public schools, in-patient and out-patient hospital settings, clinics, and academic institutions. Dr. Benton is currently in private practice in the Dallas area and specializes in testing and consultation services for children, adults, and families with learning differences and/or emotional-behavioral challenges, such as Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety Disorders, Depression/Bipolar Disorder, processing disorders, behavior problems in children/adolescents, as well as other disorders.
Previously, Dr. Benton has served as a clinical psychologist at the Shelton School and Evaluation Center, which is the largest private school in the world for students with learning differences. While at Shelton, she specialized in providing exceptional evaluations and parental consultation to families across Texas and the U.S. for Dyslexia and other learning differences, ADHD, and psychological disorders. Additionally while at Shelton, Dr. Benton also conducted research involving early intervention for children with language disorders and was a presenter at the International Dyslexia Association's annual convention.
Prior to Shelton, Dr. Benton has worked in the public school setting helping parents navigate the special education process and conducted psychological evaluations for special education services. She received internship training at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Children's Medical Center of Dallas, and the Episcopal School of Dallas. Dr. Benton served as the coordinator of a multi-site pediatric brain injury research study at the University of Texas-Dallas, Center for BrainHealth, where she conducted neuropsychological and psychological evaluations with children and provided support for the families.
Dr. Benton is a recognized expert in her field and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the International Dyslexia Association. She looks forward to the opportunity to work with you and your family. Dr. Benton lives in the Dallas area with her husband and two sons.
