Future Plans

Thinking ahead to about 3-5 years I have thought about some things that I would like to accomplish as a professional chemist and professor.

1) Mentoring: At one time I was a mentee, and sometimes I still feel like I need mentoring, but later I became a mentor myself. At Park University I was officially asked to mentor new faculty. I enjoyed and took pride in my work as a mentor and helped acclimate the new faculty on campus. Through the MentorNet program I started mentoring graduate students through their Ph.D. programs on personal issues. I had to quit it because of my changing job situations, but I would like to start that again.

2) Use Technology: This is an ongoing goal: to keep incorporating technology in my pedagogy. I would like to make more Pencast tutorials for some of the challenging parts of organic chemistry to help my students.

3) Undersgraduate Research: One of the parts I have seriously missed is introducing undergraduates to research. Due to the lack of science majors in my latest job, I have been unable to carry out small research projects that would engage student's interest and spark their curiosity.

4) Chemistry Outreach: I have always done chemistry outreach programs with students at all my institutions and would like to do continue doing this. At present I have had to stop outreach due to lack of interest of students and lack of time, but I would definitely like to be continue doing outreach in future.
