RETINAL SURGERY

Rhegmatogenous RD is attached by removal of subretinal fluid, giving a temponade which may be external and internal. External temponade is given by scleral buckling. Internal temponade may be given by pneumatic retinopexy or silicon oil. In case of silicon oil, vitreous must be removed before injecting oil, a procedure called vitrectomy

In Tractional RD threatening or involving macula i s treated with vitrectomy, removal of tractions and silicon oil

Exudative RD is treated by treating the cause.
