As a biliterate and bicultural leader, Dr. Janet Estrada understands the experiences of many families in Commerce City because she grew up in a hardworking middle-class family. After losing her mother at the age of nine, Dr. Estrada was raised by her devoted single father alongside her three siblings. Her father worked in landscaping and never missed a single day of work, modeling the perseverance, integrity, and strong work ethic that continues to drive her today. Dr. Estrada honors her father’s legacy of resilience and determination in her own life as a daughter, a wife to a supportive husband, and the mother of three young boys with another on the way.
Dr. Estrada has devoted her career to promoting educational innovation and improvement within bilingual, urban, and communities of color. She has served with distinction since 2008 as a teacher and administrator on the elementary, middle, and high school levels across multiple Denver Public Schools campuses. Based on her proven record of impact on both the classroom and campus levels, she was accepted in 2022 by the Colorado Education Association as a CO-PILOT facilitator charged with leading culturally and historically responsive education professional development opportunities for Colorado educators.
Dr. Janet Estrada is a passionate school Principal in the Denver Public Schools who has devoted her career to elevate the needs of her community’s most marginalized populations and create rigorous and relevant educational opportunities that will empower them for college or begin their career. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Adams County 14 School Board of Education where she ensures students are at the forefront of every decision.
Dr. Estrada holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology (accompanied by Elementary Educator Certification) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology (accompanied by Administrative Certification) from the University of Colorado at Denver. She earned a Doctorate from Loyola University Chicago’s Administration and Supervision Superintendent Endorsement EdD Program. When she is not serving children in her capacities as an educator, school leader and school board member, Dr. Estrada loves to spend time with her own 3 young sons and supportive husband. Her family loves cheering on soccer games, camping, and taking road trips together. Dr. Estrada’s journey, rooted in love, hard work, and cultural pride, fuels her commitment to serving and uplifting the Commerce City community.
