Opening Parades are held at the start of every training session when the full uniform is worn.
Main purpose of an Opening Parade: officially commence training
Other purposes of an Opening Parade: check on the uniform standards of the unit.
Closing Parades are held at the end of the training session to officially conclude the training
The Opening Parade is also a part of the assessment for the First Class Drill Badge (the Practical Component of the test requires the cadet to take on the role of the Parade Commander in an Opening Parade)
A Reviewing Officer [RO]
A Teacher Officer in Full Uniform.
Cadet Inspectors (CIs) and Honorary Officers (HOs) can also take on this role.
A Parade Commander [PC]
Contingent Commanders [CCs]
Quantity: 1-2 each (depending on the size of the contingent)
Higher or equal rank as Contingent Members
Contingents
Quantity: 2-3 (depending on the size of each contingent)
Cadets from the different batches form up one contingent each
Contingents form up at the parade square, centralised to their respective Contingent Commanders; Contingent Commanders will stand in front of their squad.
Cadets who are not in uniform or are not feeling well will stand by the sides of the parade square.
Parade Commander will be seeking permission from the Reviewing Officer (RO) and start the parade after confirming the arrival of RO, before taking positions at the side of the parade square
The Parade Commander will execute the drill "Attention" and march to the center (front) of the parade. He will then "Halt" and turn left to face the parade and form up the parade.
The Parade Commander will give the following commands to the parade:
"Attention"
"Sizing"
"Right Dress" During this command, right markers will centralise to the dias if misaligned.
"Face Front"
"At ease"
The Parade Commander will ask the Contingent Commanders to take attendance for their respective squads
"Squad Leaders, please take attendance"
Contingent Commanders will turn around and take attendance for the squad (with the squad file)
During attendance taking, the names of the cadets will be called out in rapid succession. When a cadet hears his name, he will stomp and shout out "Yes Sir". After stomping, the cadet will immediately return to "Senang Diri" position.
Once done, the Contingent Commanders will turn back and stand at ease.
The Parade Commander prepares the parade for inspection by giving the "Open Order" command
Contingent Commanders will take one step forward before executing an "about turn" to face their contingents.
Contingent Commanders will execute an "about turn" to face the front during "eyes front".
He would then turn to face the dias, march forward and invite the Reviewing Officer (who is at the side of the parade square) to inspect the parade.
(Salutes) "Good Afternoon, Sir/ Ma'am" (takes one step forward)
"The parade is formed up and ready for inspection, Sir/ Ma'am" (takes one step backwards)
(Salutes) "Thank You, Sir"
(Turns 45 degrees to the left to guide the Reviewing Officer)
Before the Reviewing Officer approaches each contingent, Contingent Commander will execute a "static left/ right turn" and salutes together with the Parade Commander.
(Salute) "Good afternoon Sir/ Ma'am"
(Contingent Commander faces the front)
The Parade Commander gives the "Close Order" command
Contingent Commanders will take one step backwards before executing an "about turn" to face their contingents.
Contingent Commanders will execute an "about turn" to face the front during "eyes front".
Subsequently, Parade Commander gives the "Pledge Taking" command and recite the NPCC Pledge.
Parade Commander leads the pledge-taking, the rest of the parade echo after him
Parade Commander gives the "fall out" command
Parade Commander will execute an "about turn", turning to face the front before shouting the command
The whole parade will execute "fall out", before falling in "at ease".
Parade Commander will allow Squad Leaders to take over and respective Squad Leaders will carry on with NPCC training as usual
