Enhancing efficiency, shifting production, improving the system
Thursday, April 29, 7:30-8:30PM (ET)
For our second The Science of Climate Solutions, we will spend our time in Zoom hearing from Derek Hall, Program Lead for the Energy Engineering Program in the John and Willie Leone Family Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at Penn State University, and Alon Abramson, Program Manager at Philadelphia Energy Authority.
There will be time for Q&A and sharing of Renewable Energy/Electricity solution highlights in Pennsylvania and across the globe.
Before our Zoom session on April 29, we encourage you to check out these resources below (these are all optional, but the more sources you review, the better prepared you will be to participate), as well as the websites for Project Drawdown and the Drawdown Ecochallenge.

How Climate Connects to Pollution, Energy, & Public Health, by Tracey Holloway for Project Drawdown (~29 minutes)
Join air quality expert Holloway as she digs into the intersection of pollution, energy, and public health. Hear more about why shifting our cars, electricity, and home heating technology is just one part of changing our collective carbon footprint.

How to bring affordable, sustainable electricity to Africa, by Rose M. Mutiso (~13 minutes)
Energy poverty, or the lack of access to electricity and other basic energy services, affects nearly two-thirds of Sub-Saharan Africa. As the region's population continues to increase, so will the need to build a new energy system to grow with it, says Rose M. Mutiso. In a bold talk, she discusses how a balanced mix of solutions like solar, wind farms, geothermal power and modern grids could create a high-energy future for Africa -- providing reliable electricity, creating jobs and raising incomes.
A podcast series was produced in summer 2019 on Drawdown solutions taking place across the state of Pennsylvania. This is the Electricity Generation Sector podcast of the Drawing Down in Pennsylvania series. A transcript is available for this audio file.

How behavioral science can lower your energy bill, by Alex Laskey (~8 minutes)
What's a proven way to lower your energy costs? Would you believe: learning what your neighbor pays. Alex Laskey shows how a quirk of human behavior can make us all better, wiser energy users, with lower bills to prove it.
