My research agenda advances Islamic-integrative counselling through the systematic development, evaluation and application of evidence-based psychospiritual interventions. My work is grounded in clinical practice and informed by methodological rigour, with a strong emphasis on real-world relevance within the Malaysian mental-health context.
Key research areas include:
TR-TAN intervention development and evaluation, integrating Reality Therapy and Tazkiyah al-Nafs
Islamic conceptualisation of self-compassion (ihsan kendiri) and its implications for mental well-being
Psycho-spiritual resilience among adolescents and community populations
Single-Subject Research (SSR) methodologies to assess counselling effectiveness in applied and small-sample settings
This research portfolio supports the translation of theory into practice while contributing culturally responsive knowledge to the counselling discipline.
I have developed and secured intellectual property for two core research-based innovations:
TR-TAN Integrated Counselling Manual
MyIPO Registration: LY2023P04984
A structured, empirically examined counselling manual derived from doctoral research, designed to guide Islamic-integrative counselling practice across clinical, educational and community settings.
LR-MAP: Literature Review Mapping Framework
A copyrighted visual research tool that supports systematic literature mapping, conceptual clarity, and future-ready research planning in postgraduate and scholarly work.
Both innovations have received national and international innovation awards and are incorporated into Dar e-Hikmah, a digital psychoeducational platform that translates research outputs into accessible learning resources. Together, these innovations strengthen the infrastructure of Islamic-integrative counselling research and practice in Malaysia.
I actively contribute to Berita Harian, Malaysia’s national newspaper, writing on topics such as adolescent mental health, emotional literacy, family dynamics, and digital well-being. These contributions serve as a form of public scholarship, translating research-informed insights into accessible narratives for the wider community and supporting national mental-health awareness efforts.
