Detailed Introduction

Having a mathematical and science school background, Ajay Kumar took up the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in the field of Mechanical Engineering from Madhav Institute of Technology and Science (MITS) Gwalior MP India.

After undergraduate professional degree program in Mechanical Engineering, he, later, studied Engineering Materials. Having been trained as an Engineer and gone through mechanical and materials laboratory research training, he graduated with a Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree in Materials Engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal India and working in Advanced Materials Processing Research Institute (AMPRI) CSIR India.

The exposure, he received over the past years to understand the advance materials manufacturing system, in general, gave him an insight with a strong practical & analytical perspective to further study the mechanical aspects of the metal matrix composite system. Therefore, after an engineering based Bachelors, a research based Masters Degrees, he went on to pursue PhD in Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore India and developed Polymer-Derived Metal Matrix Composite using Friction Stir Processing (FSP). Mechanical IISc

He worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Washington State University (WSU), Pullman Washington USA for one year on Intermetallic Growth Kinetics and its Effect on the Shear-Fracture Response of Thin Solder Micro-joints (Supported by NSF (DMR-1309843) and Missile Defense Agency (MDA)).

He also worked as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the College of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) USA worked in the area of Metal Matrix Nanocomposites, Advanced Surface Alloying of Mild Steel to Stainless Steel Compositions during Manufacturing to Improve Corrosion Resistance of Components Used in the Water Industry, Novel Surface Microstructure and Low-Cost Surface Treatments to Reduce Drag, Energy Consumption, and Corrosion in Water Transport Systems and Waste Materials Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites for Reducing Embodied Energy and Emissions under National Science Foundation and Department of Energy Projects.

Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tirupati India. He is based in Tirupati city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh where Sri Venkateswara Temple sits atop one of the the 7 peaks of Tirumala Hills.

As his parents have endowed him with their exceptional social genes, he finds an idea of pursuing other interesting stuffs too alongside the profession in a career very interesting, which has played a vital role in overall shaping his personality and life so far, in this regard, his hobbies are to observe/follow international affairs, music, philosophy, science communication/popularization, hiking, yoga, watching documentaries, listening and singing songs, watching dance, music, comedy TV shows, photography, traveling etc.
