Our Story
Founded in 1988 by Michael Dragoo, a descendant of the Belshazzar Dragoo family line (Line 6), the Dragoo Family Association (DFA) brings together descendants and relatives of the Dragoo family through a shared interest in discovering, preserving, and celebrating our family heritage.
What began with Michael's commitment to preserving and sharing our family's history has grown into an enduring association of cousins who contribute their knowledge, research, photographs, documents, and family stories to a shared legacy.
For nearly four decades, the DFA has helped strengthen connections among generations of Dragoo descendants, creating opportunities to discover relatives, exchange information, and preserve the stories of those who came before us.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Dragoo Family Association is to share family history by bringing our extended family together through discovery, preservation, and creating personal connections.
We believe that family history is the stories, experiences, relationships, and traditions that connect us across generations.
By sharing what we know and preserving what we discover, we help ensure that future generations can understand and appreciate their Dragoo heritage.
What We Do
Through the collective efforts of our members and volunteers we:
Maintain an extensive Family History Library. Our collections include Heritage Albums, family history books, historical documents, photographs, and genealogical records representing the ten Dragoo family lines. This remarkable collection, built through generations of family research and contributions, is one of the Association's most valuable membership resources.
Maintain a shared genealogical family tree. Through the DFA's family-maintained Ancestry.com account, members can explore a substantial portion of our documented family history and discover connections across generations.
Provide personalized genealogical assistance. Volunteer Line Librarians help members research their ancestry, explore family connections, and draw upon the broader resources of the DFA's Family History Library.
Organize biennial family reunions. Every two years, Dragoo descendants gather to renew friendships, meet cousins, exchange family stories, and celebrate their shared heritage.
Publish a quarterly family newsletter. Featuring family history, research discoveries, member-submitted queries, articles, and current family news, the newsletter connects our extended family and shares knowledge drawn from our historical collections.
Preserve our shared heritage using professional archival practices. The DFA employs advanced techniques for high-quality digitization, preservation, and secure storage of family-history materials. Through the careful collection and preservation of photographs, historical documents, letters, oral histories, and personal stories, we safeguard our family's irreplaceable heritage for future generations.
A Shared Family Effort
The strength of the DFA lies in the dedication of its members.
Our Association is sustained by individuals who generously contribute their time, knowledge, research, and financial support. Some have spent decades tracing family lines, while others are just beginning to explore their ancestry. Each brings something valuable to our shared endeavor.
As we approach the DFA's 40th anniversary in 2028, we are looking toward the future with renewed purpose. Our goal is to build a strong and lasting foundation that will sustain the Association for another 40 years and beyond, ensuring that future generations of Dragoo descendants can continue discovering, preserving, and sharing their family heritage.
