Week 3- Making a Morgue

What is a Design Morgue?

Yes, we have some pretty macabre terms in the theatre: "lumber graveyard," "break a leg". A Morgue however refers a collection of historical resources and images. A vision board for a time period. Design morgues are specific, they show details in style, form, colors, patterns, etc. We use design morgues to compile reference materials for costumes, sets, props, make up and hair, and marketing. You will work in groups of 3-4 to create Era Morgues of your own. Each person will be responsible for either Costumes, Hair and Make-Up, Set, Props, or Marketing.

  • You will compile your Morgues in google slides. Each group will have ONE presentation with MULTIPLE slides

  • Each design morgue must have a MINIMUM of 10 images per slide. Make sure you explore gender and social classes. (A rich person does not dress like a poor person)

  • After each image board slide, you need to include a description of defining hallmarks of the time period.

  • Look at the exemplars below. Watch the video for help.

  • Links to where you can find reference images are below as well. Do not just google willy nilly. Google specifically and DOUBLE CHECK!

  • *Any styles of the 20th century, 1900s and later, should have photographic and even film references
