For this project, I researched recent examples of cybersecurity incidents in the news. I analyzed two different cybersecurity articles, summarized what happened, evaluated the credibility of each source, and explained what can be learned from these incidents. This project helped me better understand how common cyber attacks are and how they affect individuals and organizations.
This article discusses a ransomware attack on Ingram Micro, which is a large technology distribution company, where hackers gained unauthorized access to internal systems and stole sensitive personal information, including stuff like names and Social Security numbers. Around 42,000 individuals were affected, including employees, customers, and job applicants. The attack caused service disruptions and forced the company to notify authorities and those impacted. This incident highlights how ransomware attacks can have serious consequences for both companies and individuals in the long run as a whole.

In cases like this, it can be prevented by using stronger passwords, 2-step verification/authorization, system check-ups to make sure you're up to date, and more cybersecurity training.
This article explains a massive data breach that exposed personal information from over 45 million French citizens. The leaked data I saw included demographic, healthcare, and financial records that were found publicly accessible online. Cybersecurity researchers discovered the exposed database and helped take it offline. Even though the data was removed, the breach put millions at risk for identity theft and fraud, which isn't right. This situation shows how dangerous unsecured databases can be and why organizations we trust must protect sensitive information.

Considering this type of breach, it could be prevented through proper database security, access controls, and encryption
After completing this project, I realized how common/serious cybersecurity attacks are. Ransomware and data breaches can affect large organizations and millions of people, not just small companies. This activity helped me understand the importance of strong passwords that only I would know, software updates, data encryption, and being cautious online. I am now more aware of cybersecurity risks and how to better protect my personal information.
