Hi, I'm Jessica and I'm a birth doula who will support you through the birth of your baby. During pregnancy we will meet a few times to get to know each other, to discuss issues that may come up along the way, and then I will make myself available for you around your due date, to be with you whenever the baby might be born.
I will come to be with you while you are in labour, to provide continuous support throughout, and will stay with you until after the baby is born, when things are settled afterwards.
I can also provide postnatal doula support after the birth of your baby, to help you adjust to life after your baby has arrived.
This may include practical support - such as help with household chores, or preparing food, or informational support - feeding, sleeping, or other aspects of babycare, or it could be emotional support - a trained listener to be able to reflect on your experiences. Or I can simply hold the baby for a while so you can have a rest or a shower!
I have been an NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor since 2009 and have supported many mothers over the years. I can provide standalone breastfeeding support, through arranging a face to face visit, with follow up information provided afterwards.
I will listen to you, give you information, and help you decide what course of action feels right for you in your situation. Everyone has different aims and priorities which will be respected, and I will help you to achieve yours.
There are different kinds of doula, but mostly being a doula is all about supporting you and your family.
A doula is an experienced person who has completed relevant qualifications to enhance her understanding, who takes her lead from you to support your journey through birth and afterwards.
A doula gives support, in the form of information, practical support, and emotional support. She also supports the rest of the family, depending on need.
A doula nurtures her client, is warm and approachable, non-judgemental, and respects the wishes of the client.
A doula does not impose her opinions on her client. A doula does not act as a medical professional. A doula does not get in the way.
A doula provides a safe space to all. Not all women are part of a couple, and you may have any background, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or belief system.
