I am a birth doula who will support you through the birth of your baby. I will meet with you a few times before the baby is due, to get to know you (and your family), and then will make myself available for you around your due date, for whenever the baby might be born. I will come to you in labour, providing continuous support throughout, and stay with you until after the baby is born, when things are settled afterwards.
I will listen to you and be guided by you as to how I can support you best. I can be a useful person to talk to about complications, to enable you to make the decisions that are right for you about your pregnancy. I will provide support through labour, through massage, hand holding, reminding to drink and eat, helping you to get into positive birth positions, helping you with your breathing, and enabling a calm and oxytocin-rich environment as best as possible.
I will work with midwifes and any other birth partners to ensure I maintain my boundaries, to not overstep the mark professionally or personally. I can aid communication with healthcare professionals, asking questions or passing information on as needed.
I will support a woman’s partner through birth as well, offering suggestions to enable them to effectively support their labouring partner, and to support them emotionally through this time too.
After your baby is born I will endeavour to maintain the oxytocin-rich environment, and enable you and your baby to have maximum skin to skin contact.
I am an NCT Antenatal Practitioner, with years of experience working with women and their partners antenatally. I regularly facilitate courses through the NCT around the area and am up to date on my knowledge and relevant professional development.
I am also an NCT Breastfeeding Counsellor so am able to assist with establishing breastfeeding, and with any issues that may occur further down the line.
I charge £500 to be your birth doula. This covers most expenses (long distances may incur some additional costs). This will give you three meetings antenatally, me to be on call for your birth 24 hours a day from 38 weeks to 42 weeks (and to do my best to be there if the birth happens outside of this time-window). I will remain with you throughout the birth, and for a few hours afterwards. Also we will meet up postnatally to reflect on all that has happened.
