"As music students, we focus on accuracy and improvement in the practice room,
and we strive to fix details each week before we have lessons with our teacher. It
is hard and lonely work. These performance experiences have become a
wonderful way to motivate us through our practice hours because we see that
attention to these minute details can generate incredible experiences, where we
can bring to the fore other important aspects of music such as passion, emotion,
and sensitivity. We love the community sharing aspect of performing, a sort of gift
that is worth the hard work of practicing. Each venue has its own unique
environment due to different emotions and energies that are projected from the
audience. This has taught us that the performer needs to be adaptable and
focused, regardless of what the audience is like. After performing at multiple
venues, we’ve realized that despite all of our unique journeys and interests, we
share one common goal: to successfully share a message with our audience that
creates emotion and makes us all feel connected. Furthermore, we know that
these community members don’t come to the campus to hear us (due to the
complications of parking, excessive walking, and the size of the campus) and so
we need to go to them. Through these concerts, we learn more about the art of
performing, and they benefit by receiving the healing and restorative power of
live music." -Participants in the 2.0 Series
"We are SUNY Fredonia students who are interested in presenting solo and chamber
performances to audiences of Western New York. We are a diverse group of people
majoring in performance, music education, sound recording technology, and
music therapy, we include some LGBTQ, and we come from a variety of places. Some
of us are from New York state, others from out of state, and still others are international
students. The 2.0 series was started to give us access to a variety of locations outside of
SUNY Fredonia where we can try out our pieces for diverse audiences and age groups.
This series enables us to connect with the community through music and public
speaking, while strengthening our performance skills." -Participants in the 2.0 Series
