Life at the Intelligent Systems Design Laboratory (ISDL) starts. You will feel that your life will be very different from the life you had before with the beginning of the seminars and monthly presentation meetings.

We will continue the technical terminology workshop held in April. As a student belonging to the information department, you will deepen your knowledge of technical terms and learn how to present your resume and presentation.

Following the technical terms workshop in April and May, while students will learned how to write resumes and give presentations until May, and then they will focus on programming in June. As a result, the baseline of research can be significantly raised.

While the undergraduate students devote themselves to research, it is also a time for graduate students to make achievements through presentations at conferences. Not only do we present our research at conferences held in Japan, but we also attend conferences abroad, such as the Society for Artificial Intelligence, SACSIS, and PDPTA, which are very stimulating for undergraduate students.

The summer vacation of Doshisha University is from the beginning of August to the end of September, but ISDL will start its activities as usual in the latter half of August. The key to improving the results of research is starting research life as early as possible. In addition, we do a major clean up on the day the laboratory events resume to create an environment in which everyone can switch off the summer vacation mood and work hard on their research.

The annual summer vacation seminar trips will be held in various places such as Wakayama in 2018 and Awaji Island in 2019. You can enjoy sightseeing and activities in the daytime and parties in the evening, which will help you to develop a closer relationship with your teachers, seniors and peers.

While the lecture starts, this is the month to take over the demos that have been set up to give companies a tour of the intelligent lighting system and the project members who are in charge of developing and operating the systems installed in companies. This gives the undergraduate students significant growth.

ISDL is a laboratory that has a very close relationship with its alumni, and this can be felt at the alumni meeting. 2010 was the year of Dr. Miki's 60th birthday, so a total of 100 people including alumni and current students gathered at the meeting. There were various events such as quiz shows and slide shows looking back on the past, and one of the features of this laboratory is that you can get to know many of your seniors.

At the end of the year, we have monthly presentations and opportunities to write journal papers. At the end of the year party, we can relieve our daily fatigue to the fullest extent.

At the start of a new year, research life enters its final stage. We aim to improve the quality of our graduation thesis by summarizing the results of last month's work, discussing the problems and conducting additional experiments. On the other hand, graduate students who are about to graduate have to submit their master's thesis and have an examination for their master's thesis. This is the culmination of the three years devoted to research.

A tense mood is prevailing the laboratory as the submission of the graduation thesis and the presentation approaches. In their graduation thesis and presentations, students will do their best to present their research results for the year, with a variety of approaches, such as conducting additional experiments, struggling to revise their papers, and aiming for a higher quality by practicing their presentations.

One or three years of activities in the laboratory comes to an end. We have a banquet, a graduation trip and more. Those who are chose to continue studying and those who chose to find a job seem to be recharging for next month, so they can have a good start. And another year of ISDL is begins.
