CANCELLED: March 26,  2024 (1:30pm)  County Board of Supervisors vote on Landfill Expansion

 (481 4th St. in Hollister)

On March 21, 2024, Waste Solutions withdrew their request for the Supervisors to approve their landfill expansion. (We will remain vigilant in case they come back with a new proposal.)

    Timeline for John Smith Landfill EIR Process

January 31, 2024 -- County Planning Commission voted to reject the proposed Landfill expansion. The Supervisors will make final decision.

March 10 & 11, 2021 -- Public meetings on the scope of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for expanding John Smith Landfill.

March 23, 2021 -- Deadline for comments to County Planning (Stan Ketchum) regarding the scope of the EIR being prepared. 

 April 13, 2021 -- Board of Supervisors Meeting to discuss EIR contract being awarded to vendor (9am)  -- open for public comment.

June 2022 -- Draft EIR is released and Notice of Preparation of EIR is announced

                                              ( 45 day review period by the public)

Spring-Fall 2023 --  Prepare Final EIR with responses to all comments from public & regulatory agencies.

October 11 - 30, 2023 -- Planning Commission holds 4 public hearings on EIR & use permit makes and recommendations to Supervisors.

January 31, 2024 -- County Planning Commission voted to reject the proposed Landfill expansion. The Supervisors will make a final decision.

March 26, 2024 -- Supervisors vote on EIR and landfill expansion, including the rezoning of 388 acres for the expansion.
