To walk through each day with serenity. To accept the things which I cannot change and therefore need not dwell on. To courageously dedicate myself to that which I can do, and therefore deserves my full attention. To have the wisdom to know the difference between these two. To do so in hopes to better love and serve myself and those around me.
My professional mission statement borrows from Dunbar and Winston’s An Occupational Perspective on Leadership: Theoretical and Practical Dimensions. I discuss their five tenants of leadership, 1) Cultural Competence, 2) Interprofessional Value, 3) Effective Communication, 4) Ethical Decision Making, and 5) Perspective Thinking (2015). Though we often describe leadership as a grandiose affair, I think it is in fact quite small, in that we can subconsciously serve as a role model through our daily actions. My professional mission statement describes how I intend to embody these tenants in my everyday choices.
