Opportunities in the Dombrowski laboratory

We welcome enthusiastic and ambitious students and research volunteers for placements and work experience in our group. You should have a keen interest in neuroimmunology, MS, neuroscience, tissue regeneration or immunology.

  • Undergraduate, masters, summer students and hands-on work-placement opportunities

During your project you will learn a range of laboratory techniques for instance; sterile tissue and cell culture, cryosectioning of tissue samples, immunohistochemistry (staining of tissue samples), fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, western blot, PCR/qPCR and ELISA. In addition to working in the lab you will probably be involved in general lab management and administrative tasks, such as resource stock keeping, ordering reagents, lab organisation and compiling project reports. You will also participate in and present your work at our weekly lab meetings and monthly journal clubs. This will train your scientific communication skills. We also encourage participation at local conferences and symposia in the form of poster presentations, e.g. at the NI MS Research Symposium or Ulster Immunology Group Symposium. We also host regular opportunities for career development (e.g. CV clinics, how to write cover letters, social media profiles for work, etc) and participate in outreach activities with the public (e.g. NI Science festival).

If you are interested in carrying out a project with us please contact Dr Yvonne Dombrowski
