The HiSET and GED exams are the only two high school equivalency tests certified by the MA Department of Education (DESE) that lead to a high school equivalency certificate. Massachusetts allows test takers to combine scores from both the HiSET and GED exams to fulfill the requirements of a high school equivalency. Test takers can also combine passing scores on both English and Spanish exams to earn their HSE.
If you have not taken either exam, you should compare the two tests. Both will provide you a recognized high school equivalency credential, however there are differences between the two exams like: cost, test structure, test delivery (paper v. computer), and availability of test centers.
