My vision for this portfolio was to create a visually appealing piece of work that displayed my growth in the past months of this class. I have grown and learned many skills throughout this class, and I hope the audience can realize that through my portfolio. I chose to create my portfolio like a website because it was different, but also everyone understands how to navigate it. I also really enjoy creating websites or anything digital, so a lot of my work in the portfolio was created using digital tools.
The theme for my website is plants and flowers to symbolize growth. I enjoy the outdoors, and the metaphor that we have been using in leadership by design is hiking, so I felt that plants were a perfect theme. When I first arrived in Grandey, I started out like a seed. I didn’t understand what this class would entail or what I would learn. As each of the hikes progressed I grew taller and gained new leaves. On each of the hikes, I gained at least one new skill. From hike 1, I learned how to think deeper and ask good questions. From hike 2, I learned about the design process and how to work with a team. In hike 3, I learned how to think about objects from different perspectives and how to design in CAD. Finally, in hike 4, I learned about the connections in grand challenges and how to create an organization. Now I am a fully grown flower but I still have so much more to learn.
