As part of my academic experience, I had the opportunity to present a research paper in the Department of English during a national seminar on Science and Literature. Along with my co-presenter Kumkum, I presented a paper titled “Biopolitical Governance and Technological Surveillance: A Comparative Study of Nineteen Eighty-Four and Contemporary Surveillance Culture.” The presentation explored how George Orwell’s dystopian vision reflects modern systems of surveillance and control, drawing parallels between the novel’s themes and present-day technological monitoring practices. Through this interdisciplinary approach, we examined the concepts of power, control, and individual freedom in both literary and real-world contexts. The experience enhanced my research, analytical, and presentation skills, while also providing valuable exposure to scholarly discussions and critical engagement with contemporary issues.
