The larp will take place at Consall Scout Camp near Stoke-on-Trent in the UK. The site is located on the A52 and the entrance is clearly signposted. Please do not follow signs for Consall village.
By Car:
The camp entrance is on the A52 between Stoke-on-Trent and Ashbourne.
From the M6:
Leave Junction 15 onto the A500. Follow the A500 to A50, join A50 East, follow the A50 to the 4th intersection (A520) Northbound. Then follow the A520 to the junction with A52 (Cellarhead). Turn right at the crossroads and the camp is approximately 2 miles on the left.
From the M1:
Leave junction 23, join the A50, signposted Stoke-on-Trent (Westbound). Follow the A50 to the junction with the A520, then as above.
By Public Transport:
The nearest train station is Stoke-on-Trent. It is possible to then catch buses closer to site.
From Stoke this means getting the 23 to J1 and then the 32X to Cheadle Road, which takes about 45 minutes.
Practically speaking, organising with other players to share a taxi from the train station may be simpler.
International Travel:
There are direct trains from London Euston to nearby Stoke-on-Trent, which take under 2 hours.
The nearest major airports are Manchester Airport, East Midlands Airport, and Birminghan Airport. Each is about an hour's drive away from Stoke-on-Trent or 1 to 2 hours on public transport.
A timetable will be published closer to the larp, including key timings both ingame and offgame. The preliminary timetable is:
Friday - Players arrive mid-afternoon, for a briefing and game start from late afternoon to early evening. Everyone will be in character by tea time.
Saturday - Second day of play, finishing late at night. There will be a short optional debrief and afterparty/socialising.
Sunday - Crew will begin cleanup and takedown from midmorning and players should be offsite around lunchtime. Players are invited to help, but this is optional.
There are no strict timings for stopping and starting play overnight, but there will be no organiser-led content from midnight until 8am. If you’re roleplaying between these hours, we ask you to be considerate of how close bunkrooms are to play areas, and try to keep voices low when indoors.
Sleeping is offgame, in rooms with bunkbeds that sleep 4-22 people. Bunkrooms are split between two buildings - one at the bottom of the site’s steep hill and one at the top. Both buildings have a nearby toilet and shower block.
These buildings will be referred to as bottom base and top base during the game.
Bunks in bottom base are on the 1st floor of the building, mainly in one large shared room. There is one ensuite bunkroom with two beds on the ground floor.
Bunks in top base are on the ground floor of the building. Each sleeps 4-8 people.
Camping is also an option, and organisers can show you good spots to pitch on arrival.
We are collecting access information from all players at sign-up and will assign bunkrooms based on balancing access needs. If there is demand for single-gender bunkrooms, these can also be provided.
Bedding is not provided by the venue.
We are aiming to provide optional catering during the larp. This will be offered at an extra cost, and is likely to be served in bottom base. Top base kitchen will always be available for player use.
There will be tea, coffee, water and soft drinks available in both base kitchens.
Alcohol will not be provided during the larp. You’re welcome to bring alcohol to drink when socialising after the larp has finished, but there must be no consumption of alcohol during play.
Dissolution is a game set in the modern day, so much of your costume will be similar to how someone might dress if going for a hike in the countryside. Depending on how you develop your character, you may choose to lean more towards smart office wear, practical waterproofs or tactical camo.
You are welcome to bring along any kit you would like your character to carry during the game, for example:
A bag to take on excursions into the Zone
Snacks and a water bottle
Tools that may help your character perform their job
A torch, with a red light to avoid dazzling other players (a limited number of red gel covers can be provided by organisers)
Any mementos smuggled in from your character’s home
A larp knife, ideally modern in design and short enough not to be mistaken for a shortsword
Every character will be provided with a journal, which they are encouraged to record their experiences and findings in throughout the game. You will need to provide your own pens, pencils, etc.
Characters will be aware that electronics and complex machinery do not work in the Zone. You are welcome to bring along items like voice recorders, cameras, music players, etc, but you should not attempt to use these in the Zone. Torches do work in the Zone, but please cover them with a red gel. White lights will be used to indicate an offgame presence/crew member.
There is no phone or walkie-talkie signal in the Zone, nor in the Authority bases within it - and these items should not be brought in character. You're welcome to have your phone on your person for safety or other out of character reasons, but must not use it while in character.
Please do not bring any larp weapons besides a single larp knife for your character.
