Dissolution is a larp about identity, obsession and losing yourself.
The characters are a group of experts and professionals sent on an expedition by an organisation known only as the Authority. As the game begins they are lifted from hypnosis to find themselves in an impossible, incomprehensible landscape known as the Zone. The woodland beyond the windows of their base is unfamiliar, known to them only as a place with no consistency where inexplicable things happen. Whether they venture out into the unknown, or hunker down in the apparent safety of their camp, they are caught between two relentlessly transformative forces...
This is a game about a doomed expedition:
You will play a member of an expedition assembled by the labyrinthine, esoteric Authority, tasked with exploring and studying an aberrant, alien distortion in reality known only as the Zone. Your worldview, personality, memory will all undergo profound changes, turning you into something unrecognisable to your former self.
This is a game about transformation:
Over the course of the game - through expeditions into the distortions of the Zone, or by submitting to the strictures of the Authority - your character's identity will shift and collapse. What will you do when everything falls apart? And who will drag you, or be dragged by you, into oblivion?
This is a game about personal horror:
You will be given the tools to direct your character’s story, seams of inspiration to pick apart as they unravel and come undone. This game’s horror is slow, oppressive and personal - directed by you through improvisational and collaborative mechanics.
This might be for you if you like:
Improvisational Roleplay
You will be provided with a bespoke "character deck", made up of cards symbolsing core elements of your characters' psyche to randomly draw from at key moments. We're aiming for an intuitive system that asks you to exchange a little control for a more spontaneous and open-ended experience.
A Personal, Psychological Experience
The game's mechanics all work towards more deeply developing the characters' inner worlds, amplifying the tensions between who they were and who they are becoming. While interpersonal relationships will still be important, our hope is that exploring the woods alone can be equally engaging and complex.
Creeping Dread
We want to capture a feeling of growing paranoia, a sense that even the most fundamental things can no longer be trusted. The pace of this will mostly be driven by your own decisions, and you will get more out of this game if you are able to lean into building the atmosphere.

Directed Play
We are not planning any linears or targeted plot drops. While your character will begin play with clear motivations, your experience will largely depend on your own choices within a "sandbox" system that rewards proactive play.
Definite Character Control
Your character will fundamentally change throughout the game, which could result in you portraying someone you did not initially set out to. You will still be able to make decisions about what these changes mean, and opt out of anything you're not happy with.
Clear Victories & Reveals
Although your character may have their own idea of what success looks like, this is not a game where there will be any clear sense of winners or losers. Nor will anyone, even the game team, ever have an objective understanding of either the Authority or the Zone.
