There are many advantages to a plurilingual approach to second or foreign language learning. This approach fosters inclusion and community building within the classroom, since students are fully able to be themselves and are not restricted to the languages they can or cannot use to communicate with others. With a plurilingual approach, students are not always scrambling for ways to express themselves in a language with which they are not yet familiar. Rather, they use the knowledge of their first language to guide them in the second language learning process.
