Session 4: Troop Program

402 Animal Helpers

Build the skills you'll need to help your troop earn their Animal Helpers, Voice for Animal, and other animal-oriented badges. We'll do some interactive activities and meet a current Guide Dogs for the Blind puppy in training. All GS levels welcome, but we'll be focusing on the older girl badges.

403 Journey In A Day

Hosting a multi-level Journey in a Day program can be a fun way to engage troops in exciting new topics, build community, and participate in Take Action programs. But how do you even start to put together a program? What roles are needed? How does the day flow? Come to this workshop to hear about how the Mission Rafael SUT has been running annual Journey in a Day programs for 5 years and all of the lessons learned and successes that have come with this adventure! You'll receive planning tools and templates, including schedules, budgets, program ideas, agendas for team planning materials, etc., as well as discussions about how to make it fun and engaging for all program levels.

404 Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Do your girls love to do community service? Looking for ways for them to earn an award for all those hours? Bring the Presidential Volunteer Service Award to your Service Unit. Learn what it is, how to set it up and how to track hours in this workshop. More information can be found on the Presidential Service Award Website.

405 American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED

Blended Learning Course

This blended learning course includes an online portion and a skills session. Once registered to attend you will be sent a link to complete the online portion (3-4 hours). The online MUST be completed prior to attending the skills sessions and you must show the instructor that you passed the online course. Upon completion of this skills session and the online GSNorCal First Aider course, you will be eligible to act as a Troop First Aider. Please dress in comfortable clothes as we will be practicing on the floor.

Session 4: Songs & Games

406 Grab Your Partner and Dance

Learn folk dances from our country and abroad. We will teach distanced dances as needed by COVID-19 Guidelines.

Items to bring: Wear closed shoes (for your toes!) and bring a water bottle.

407 Grab Bag of Fun: Games

Need any fillers or warm-ups for your troop meetings or want to build on some skills? Learn and play some fun games for all ages, including three group games with a bandana (provided) and Kim's game using some handy items. Make a zig-zag book you can use to play several paper & pencil games with a friend. Create your own cards for a game of Memory. We'll share lots of ideas and have some fun while doing so!

Session 4: STEM

408 Groundwater Patch & Let's Keep It Clean Patch

Learn about conserving and protecting water through the activities in the Groundwater Foundation booklet. We will cover how you can help the girls earn their Girl Scout “Ask me about Groundwater!” and “Let’s Keep It Clean!” patches. The Let's Keep it Clean! patch booklet aligns with the It's Your Planet - Love it! Journey.

Session 4: Outdoor

410 Art to Ecology - an Outdoor Education Progression

Do you want to teach your troop more about the outdoors but are unsure where to start? This class will give guidelines on where to start for all ages, how to incorporate the Outdoor badges and how to teach about the outdoors without extensive naturalist knowledge. All ages and all experience levels welcome: taught by a former interpreter for National Park Service.

411 Pocketknife Safety & Whittling

Learn to use a pocketknife safely, including how to sharpen a knife and the two basic cuts used in whittling. Emphasis on teaching knife skills to girls. Practice whittling using a bar of soap.

Items to bring: pocket knife, whetstone (if you have one), bar of soap (preferably unscented), and a paper plate to collect soap shavings.

412 S'more Outdoors!

Want to get your troop outdoors but are hesitant where or how to begin? In this workshop, we will review the adult trainings and resources so you feel equipped to explore the outdoors with your troop! Our goal is to provide you with the confidence and competence to take on an outdoor adventure.

Session 4: Crafts & Personal Interest

414 Intermediate Knitting Circle

Do you have a knitting project lying around not making progress? Bring it along to this session. We can help you with challenges such as stitch gauge, confusing directions, learning to tink to fix mistakes, and adjusting. Anyone is welcome to come, sit, knit, and visit.

Crocheters also welcome.

415 Jewelry Projects To Make With Plastic Lacing

Learn how to make earrings and bracelets using plastic lacing (boondoggle, gimp, lanyard). We will make one pair of earrings and learn the zipper weave bracelet, the cobra weave bracelet, a wrap bracelet and a butterfly stitch bracelet.

416 SWAPS

SWAPS are "Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere". The tradition of Girl Scouts exchanging keepsakes started long ago when Girl Scouts and Girl Guides first gathered for fun, song, and making new friends. Come and learn SWAPs etiquette and a whole slew of ideas of SWAPs to make with all levels of girls.

417 Creating a Spa Basket

Learn to make your own bath salts, soap, and body lotion to create a spa basket. All the supplies can be sourced from the dollar store, drug store and craft store! This interactive workshop can be adapted for all age groups. This makes an ideal gift for a mom, grandmother, or aunt.

418 Decorating Cookies for Gift Giving

Learn the skill of decorating cookies to give as a gift. You will decorate professionally pre-baked cookies and display to give as a gift for friends and relatives for holidays, birthdays, new babies and special gatherings. Everything will be provided, and everyone walks away with a beautiful display of decorated cookies.

419 Mosaic Garden Art

Create a one-of-a-kind piece of art that can live in your garden. Materials include cement, decorative stones, and other colorful bling.

420 No Sew Fun With Fleece

Want other ideas as to what to do with fleece that don't involve sewing and are not just blankets and pillows? Come find out about making a hat, slug, octopus, and a water bottle bag to name a few ideas.

425 Free Time

Take a session of free time! Visit the council shop on-site, find a table and meet with your friends. Check your social media feed (don't forget to #discoveree2022). This is your time to relax and rejuvenate. Register for this workshop if you do not wish to register for any other workshops this session.
