Account Creation

An experimenter has to become an "Discover User" first. All the Discover users are managed within the context of a "Project". As shown in the figure below: A "PI" (Who can create project) user is authorized to create new projects. An "Discover User" can request to join an existing project and will become a project member upon approval by the "PI" or a "Project Owner". A "PI" can delegate a project members to become a "Project Owner".

A first time user needs to Login to the Portal with any browser. Then you click on the “CILogon” to find your home institute page to login. If login successfully, you become a “DISCOVER User” and will receive a Welcome Email. (Note: the administrator can remove “Discover User” role from an experimenter, after which, the experimenter has to sign up the “Discover User” role for your approval to be able to continue.)

Certain identity providers, like ORCID and NSF, are not supported in the Discover portal as their email association is not enforced.

More information regarding CILogon can be found here.

Logout. The portal and CILogon use Cookie to keep user login sessions, as such, it is up to the browsers that the users use locally to 'completely' logout a session.

  • The best practice is to close your current browser tab before you leave the portal.

  • You can always use the "Private" browsing mode in your browser. After you logout, you have to re-login.

  • If you use the normal mode, after "logout", you can go to the setting of your browser to delete/clear cookie history, which is browser dependent:

    • For Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer, clearing the "Cookies and site data" will do after you "Logout".

    • For the Safari, you have to close you current Tab or Window.
