BALSA WOOD BRIDGE

Deck:

The first step we took as a group towards creating the bridge was measuring out and building the deck of the bridge based on the specifications we were given. We cut planks out using the knives given, and hot glued them together. We then cut a plank in two down the middle and glued it to the bottom so that it was more sturdy.

Base:

The deck of the bridge had to rest at least 1 foot above the floor, so we created a base using planks and sticks. Two identical bases were made, with support across the width to help ensure it doesn't collapse inwards when weight is added to the bridge.

Support:

Once the deck was attached to the bases, the support was created by attaching two planks across the sides, and creating a truss support using the sticks. Once this was finished, we decided to add more support by connecting the two planks from the top of the structure. In addition to this, we attached each side to the deck using a small piece of wood carved from a plank.
