What is GALILEO?
No, we aren't talking about the famous Renaissance-era scientist. GALILEO is a virtual library that houses journals, articles, eBooks, and more that all fall under the "scholarly research" category. GALILEO is used at almost every school in Georgia, including most of the public colleges, universities, and technical colleges, as well as all of the public school systems. GALILEO can also be accessed from most of public libraries in the state.
However, each location has a different set of resources. Why? GALILEO is a subscription database. That means that each school, library, and/or college/university pays for access to specific databases, journals, and resources. This way, each entity can customize their resources based on the needs of their patrons. Each institution has it's own password, and for the most part, the passwords change three times a year. Always check with the media specialists for the most current password!
Think of it this way, people who have streaming services can only watch what they pay for. So, if you have Amazon Prime, you may get a few shows or movies that are also on Disney Plus, but you may not be able to access all of the episodes or even the same episodes/shows on each service. That's how each institution is with GALILEO.
