Lesson Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
🔵 Write engaging and well-structured posts about movies, pictures, and books.
🔵 Use descriptive and expressive language to make their posts more appealing.
🔵Understand different formats of internet reviews (short captions, blog posts, and social media discussions).
🔵 Apply storytelling techniques and call-to-action strategies to increase engagement.
Task 1.
📍 Analyze real social media posts about movies, books, and art.
📍 Discuss what makes some posts engaging and others boring.
What Makes a Social Media Post About Movies & Books Engaging?
We have already mentioned some of these elements, but let's revise them again.
Visuals Matter – posts with images and GIFs get more engagement.
Short & Clear Captions – long text without structure loses readers.
Emotional Connection – personal opinions and storytelling increase engagement.
Call-to-Action (CTA) – asking questions encourages interaction.
Example:
"I watched a great movie. It was interesting." (Too generic, lacks emotion)
‘"Interstellar’ is a mind-blowing journey through space and time! If you could time travel, where would you go? 🚀✨ #MovieNight" (More engaging!)
In addition to the elements that can make our post more attractive, there are special structures for different types of written posts: reviews, articles, reports. Let's study the structures.
(from Complete First)
Task 2.
📍 Using information about types of posts complete these exercises:
Read Christine’s report on the right. Is the style formal or informal? Does it answer the question completely?
Read Franz’s review below. Which paragraphs say: what the book is about? why we would all enjoy it?
Read Luis’s article below and match the notes for his plan (a–d) with the paragraph numbers.
Para. 1 -
Para. 2 -
Para. 3 -
Para. 4 -
a) How we became friends – same table at school, playground, visit each other’s houses.
b) My first impressions of Thea – contrast with other kids.
c) When I met Thea – on school bus.
d) Why so special – share secrets, help each other, spend time together, sit together.
In addition to the listed structures, there is also an online review option. It is much smaller, but this can sometimes play a key role in the development of a blog.
Structuring an Internet Review (Without spoilers!)
Hook (1-2 sentences): grab attention with a question, quote, or bold statement.
Summary (3-4 sentences): describe the plot without spoilers.
Opinion (2-3 sentences): what did you love or dislike?
Call to Action: ask a question to get comments.
Example Review:
Movie: "Dune (2021)"
Post:
"What would you do if your destiny was already written? "Dune" s a visually stunning epic about power, survival, and fate. The cinematography is breathtaking and Hans Zimmer’s music makes every scene unforgettable. If you love sci-fi, this is a must-watch! What’s your favourite sci-fi movie?👽#Dune #MovieReview"
Task 3.
📍Divide into small groups, choose a movie, book, or artwork and write a short review based on this structure.
📍Post your reviews/reports/articles on a shared VK workspace.
📍Read each other’s posts and give feedback. What makes some posts more readable and interesting?
