Challenge Words of the Week

With each spelling list there is a challenge word for the children to study and spell correctly on their test on Friday. We add these to the bottom of the spelling lists each week. The entire class works on the same word regardless of the list they are using for word study. I usually select a word that is related in some way to what we are currently studying.

We also use this same word as our Word of the Week (WOW). We post the WOW on the wall in the classroom. We define it and illustrate it using the sheet below and then we ask parents to use it in a sentence for "parent homework" once a week.
