What Makes an Effective Classroom Environment?
In every classroom, students need to feel welcomed, safe, and energized in order for learning to occur. Students need to have the resources they need to feel awake, energized, and motivated, including snacks, water, and school supplies. As a teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to provide as much as I can to students in the classroom to help them feel prepared for the day. School is hard work with long hours, so comfort and flexibility are necessary. I believe an effective classroom environment addresses students' academic, emotional, and physical needs, for they are people before they are students.
In this section, I discuss the ways in which my perception of a successful classroom environment has transformed throughout my student teaching. I take into consideration the roles of high expectations and classroom management and reflect on the ways digital learning has changed the way I create and foster learning environments when removed from a classroom. This section best illustrates the progression I have made in my practice of maintaining a classroom since I have begun student teaching.
