This Privacy Policy explains how Toronto Transit Tracker, published on Google Play by diamond-dave (“we,” “us,” or “our”), accesses, collects, uses, stores, and discloses information.
For privacy questions or requests, contact davedvlee@gmail.com.
Toronto Transit Tracker is an independent application. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) or the City of Toronto.
With your permission, the app accesses your device’s location to center the map, display nearby transit stops, and calculate distances to stops.
The location available to the app depends on your device settings and the permission you grant. It may include precise location.
The app does not request background location permission or save a history of your movements. Location coordinates are held temporarily for map-related functionality.
When maps are loaded, requests to the map provider can reveal the geographic area being viewed. This area may correspond to your location when the map is centered on you.
You can deny or revoke location permission through Android settings. Features that do not require your current location remain available.
Your favorite stops and pinned routes are stored locally on your device.
These saved choices are not synchronized to a user account operated by us. You can remove them within the app or clear the app’s storage through Android settings.
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how people use the app and identify opportunities for improvement.
The app records information such as app launches, screens viewed, and requests to open the app-review flow. Analytics may also process session information, app version, device and operating-system information, app-instance identifiers, and approximate location derived from network information.
The Android advertising ID may be collected when available and permitted by your device settings.
Analytics collection is enabled in the app and does not depend on granting location permission.
For more information, see Google’s Analytics data disclosure.
We use Firebase Crashlytics to identify errors and improve app stability.
Crash reports may contain error messages, stack traces, diagnostic logs, timestamps, app version, device model, operating-system information, and installation or session identifiers.
These reports are transmitted to Google for processing.
For more information, see Privacy and Security in Firebase.
If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments or other information you choose to provide.
We use this information to respond to inquiries, investigate problems, and handle privacy requests. Please avoid sending sensitive information that is unnecessary for your request.
We use information to:
Display maps, nearby stops, and distances.
Provide transit arrivals, service alerts, and trip-planning features.
Remember your favorite stops and pinned routes.
Understand app usage and improve features.
Diagnose errors and improve reliability.
Respond to support and privacy inquiries.
Meet applicable legal obligations.
The app does not require account registration or ask for your name, email address, or payment information to use its transit features.
The Android app uses MapLibre to display maps supplied by OpenFreeMap, using OpenStreetMap-based map data.
When maps are loaded, the map provider and its delivery infrastructure receive network requests. These requests may include your IP address, requested map resources, and technical connection information.
Requested map tiles can indicate the geographic area you are viewing.
See the OpenFreeMap Privacy Policy for details.
The app uses public transit information from the TTC and the City of Toronto, including schedules and real-time feeds.
Requests for real-time information are sent to the relevant transit service. The receiving service can receive your IP address and technical request information as part of delivering that information.
These services handle their records according to their own policies.
Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics process the usage and diagnostic information described in this policy.
Google Play handles the in-app review flow. If you submit a rating or written review, Google Play processes that submission. The app’s analytics event records the review-flow request result, rather than the rating or review text you submit.
See the Google Privacy Policy for additional information.
Links in the app may open external websites, such as transit information or licensing pages. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies.
The app does not currently display in-app advertisements.
However, Google Analytics can collect the Android advertising ID when it is available. The absence of advertisements does not mean that no device identifiers are processed.
You can manage or delete your advertising ID through the settings available on your Android device. This does not disable all analytics or crash reporting, because those services may use other app-instance or installation identifiers.
Information is transmitted to the service providers described in this policy to deliver maps, transit information, analytics, diagnostics, and support.
We may also disclose information when required by applicable law or a valid legal request.
Information you submit directly to an external service, such as a Google Play review, is handled by that service.
We retain different categories of information as follows:
Favorite stops and pinned routes: Remain on your device until you remove them, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app.
Location used for map features: Held temporarily for those features. The app does not save a travel-history record.
Analytics information: Retained according to the retention settings applied to our Google Analytics property and Google’s applicable retention rules. Aggregated reports may be retained differently from individual user and event records.
Crash reports: Google states that Firebase Crashlytics retains crash traces and associated identifiers for 90 days before beginning removal from live and backup systems.
Support correspondence: Retained for as long as reasonably necessary to address the inquiry, maintain relevant support records, and meet applicable legal obligations.
Map and transit service records: Retained according to the respective provider’s policies.
For more information, see Google Analytics data retention and Firebase’s retention information.
Clearing local storage or uninstalling the app does not automatically delete information already transmitted to service providers.
You can:
Grant, deny, or revoke location permission through Android settings.
Remove favorite stops and pinned routes within the app.
Clear locally stored app data through Android settings.
Manage your Android advertising ID where supported.
Uninstall the app to stop future processing by the installed app.
Contact us with privacy questions or requests.
The app does not currently include a separate switch for disabling analytics or crash reporting.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection to the processing of personal information.
Send requests to davedvlee@gmail.com, identifying Toronto Transit Tracker in your message.
We will review requests in accordance with applicable law. We may need additional information to verify a request or locate relevant records.
Because the app does not use personal user accounts, we may not be able to associate a particular analytics or diagnostic record with your email address. We will explain any limitations affecting your request.
The app uses HTTPS connections for its configured map and transit endpoints. Google’s analytics and Firebase services encrypt information in transit.
Locally stored app data is subject to Android’s application storage protections.
No method of transmission or storage can guarantee absolute security. Contact us if you believe information associated with the app has been accessed or disclosed improperly.
Service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.
Privacy laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Processing by providers is subject to their applicable terms, safeguards, and privacy policies.
The app provides general transit information and does not require account registration.
The location, analytics, and diagnostic processing described in this policy may occur when the app is used.
If you are a parent or guardian with a concern about information relating to your child, contact davedvlee@gmail.com. We will review the concern and handle applicable privacy or deletion requests in accordance with law.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the app, service providers, or applicable requirements.
The revised policy will be published on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be changed. Where required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
