Information literacy is the ability to find, organise, evaluate, use and communicate information in all the different ways it is set. (Leaning,2019)
The skill of information literacy for learners and education stake holders is very important as they have to acquire this skill in order to have effective lessons and to be able to search for and find valid information when using the media, and be able to evaluate and communicate it in all different ways as possible.
Learners and educational stakeholders can be taught this skill also by focusing and reflecting on online privacy, ethics and copyright, as they all go hand in hand. They all go hand in hand due to the fact that when they are able to understand ethics, then it means that they will be able to understand the other concepts as they all evolve around ethics. They relate to one another due to the fact that they are all talking about discipline and being able to know what is morally wrong and right, and being able to interpret, analyze, organise, use and communicate information. When they are being taught this skill they have to make sure that they make them relate to the real world situations, whereby people share and use information that is not valid and end up spreading false information. As the inclusion of the media and televison play a role in our daily live it is therefore important that they have these skills, in order for them to be able to interpret and understand what is shared with us through all sorts of media.
People also get scammed due to lack of information literacy, as they cannot evaluate the information they receive due to lack of this skill, hence it is important to teach learners and stakeholders this skill so that they do not get deceived too.
Information literacy plays a major role in creating one's positive digital footprint leading to positive digital citizenship. Therefore it is very important that learners and educational stakeholders learn more about information literacy as it will contribute to building them a positive digital footprint resulting in a positive digital identity.
