Community colleges in Maryland must provide programs which meet the mathematics outcomes required in the Associate of Arts in Teaching framework, but are not required to meet them using a specific structure of coursework. However, since regulations for certification ask for twelve credits of mathematics content, most colleges seek to reach that number of credits in the first two years of a program by either offering a combination of four three-credit courses or three four-credit courses. This document may be helpful when planning out the courses.
Below are samples and links to coursework in several typical programs.
Hood College : Four 3-credit courses
MATH 106 - Number, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
MATH 107 - Geometry and measurement.
MATH 108 - Division, ratios, proportional relationships, algebraic expressions and equations, and basic number theory.
MATH 112 - Statistics with emphasis on applications.
Howard Community College: Three 4-credit courses
MATH 127 - Concepts of Mathematics I: Problem solving, number, and operations
