In Fall 2017, the Maryland AAT Oversight Council charged a committee to review the outcomes associated with the Early Childhood and Elementary AAT degree programs and make recommendations for changes or updates to those programs. In 2018, a representative group of mathematics professors, educators and teacher educators worked with K-12 mathematics education experts to create an updated set of AAT mathematics outcomes and recommend changes or updates as necessary to ensure alignment of courses with common core standards and the integration of computational thinking into revised course frameworks.
During our discussions, the work group identified a need for resources to help mathematics faculty work with their students to achieve these outcomes. A team has now been working on developing a repository of the resources, with the following mathematics teacher educators included along the way:
Deb Poese, Workgroup Lead-- Professor of Mathematics/Director, Teacher Education Partnerships,
Montgomery College
Stacey Brown-Hobbs-- Director of Teacher Education, Mount St. Mary’s University
Christy Graybeal--Associate Professor of Education and Mathematics/Chair of Education Department,
Hood College
Beth Kobett—Professor of Education, Stevenson University
Mike Long – Professor of Mathematics/Dean, Howard Community College
Karen McLaren-- Principal Lecturer of Mathematics, UMCP
Barbara Ann Swartz -- Assistant Professor of Mathematics, West Chester University, Pennsylvania
(previously McDaniel College)
Ming Tomayko— Professor of Mathematics Education, Towson University
Resource: Debra Ward—Mathematics Supervisor, Maryland State Department of Education
