Chapter Three: Popular Handlings

Double Glide Handling

While this might not be the most refined approach, it is surprisingly effective and efficient. It also avoids discrepant displays. Given that it only uses the Glide, this is a good starting point for beginners who have yet to master the Double Lift.

Setup

Arrange the four Aces in the following order from the bottom of the face-up packet: AH-AC-AD-AS. The Ace of Spades is the face card of the packet.

Method

Display the faces of the cards and then square them up. Next, perform a Glide, apparently placing the Ace of Spades on the table. Without displaying its face, remove the bottom card of the packet (the Ace of Spades) and openly displace it to the top of the face-down packet.

Display the new bottom card, the Ace of Clubs, then perform another Glide, placing the card on top of the one already on the table.

Afterthoughts

This is one of the most accessible versions of Dr Daley’s Last Trick because it only uses a single beginner-level sleight. Don’t feel embarrassed to use this handling; it is far superior to any variations that include a visible discrepancy.
