Daley Reset

Okay, so this version probably isn't that popular, given its difficulty! However, it's an unusual and interesting handling of the plot that is a lot of fun to perform and makes great use of the lateral palm. The trick was first published in February 2018 via Patrick Kun's YouTube channel.

In February 2018, Alex Pandrea, a YouTuber, the CEO of Blue Crown Magic, and the creator of the NOC brand of playing cards, presented a technically challenging version of Dr Daley's Last Trick on Patrick Kun's YouTube channel. This variation is noteworthy for its pure handling, using only the four Aces, and its use of the lateral palm.

Even though this variation uses more difficult sleight of hand than most versions of the plot, it's still surprisingly practical, given the proper performance angles. Alex didn't give the trick a specific name, so I'm calling it "Daley Reset" because, as Alex mentions in the video, it mixes "The Last Trick of Dr. Jacob Daley" with the repeat element of the Reset plot, made famous by Paul Harris.

Green Visa Playing Cards

If you like the cards used in the tutorial video for this trick, they're Green Visa Playing Cards, which are available from Patrick Kun's website.

The biggest weakness of this version is that you flash the face of the same red Ace twice. However, most people will not notice this discrepancy. A way to avoid this visual anomaly is to perform the trick with two Aces of the same colour (or two Jacks, Queens or Kings) and a pair of identical Jokers. This approach (using duplicate Jokers) is something I explore later in the book.
