Siren has earned a reputation of trouble alongside his “royal” partner-in-crime and sister, Cordelia, on their quest to find a magical artifact for a wicked goddess.
A noble family boards a ship without paying proper tribute to the sea gods and are attacked by Umberlee, the evil queen of the sea. Siblings River and Cordelia must do whatever they can to survive, even if it means striking a deal with the wicked sea goddess herself.
*Fortiche, the award-winning French animation studio, has said before that within their animations, “every frame, every time you pause it, is a bit of concept art: a beautiful illustration.” Taking inspiration from their style throughout this project, I wanted to turn my storyboards into more "finished-looking" illustrations.
The first concepts for Song of the Siren actually stemmed from my best friend's Dungeons and Dragons character. He created River, his alias being Siren, and suggested that I create a counterpart to his character. After months of writing and design, I had created Cordelia, Siren's half-sister and his "right-hand knight." We built up their story and built the world around them, bouncing ideas off of each other. I began drawing concept art for the two characters for my courses at University, exploring their story further and further. Eventually, I decided to turn their story into my senior Capstone Animation project. I created character sheets, storyboards, animatics, scripts, and even started to build Siren and Cordelia in Blender in order to animate them. This project is still in the works, and has been growing into a larger collaborative effort. Stay tuned for more, but for now, here's what I've been working on recently!
Cordelia's very first design
Siren (before he had wings) and Cordelia after the shipwreck
The pair takes a breather during a heist (3D modeled environment made in Blender)
Siren and Cordelia after the shipwreck planning their future
The animated short above came from my advisor reminding me to have fun with things!
