"We MUST De-Schedule Cannabis!"
“The Grassroots—Legalize Cannabis Party seeks to end the war on drugs and promote policies that treat cannabis as a legal and regulated substance, allowing adults to make their own choices.”
“The Legal Marijuana Now Party advocates for the full legalization of cannabis for adult use, viewing it as a matter of personal freedom and a pathway to economic growth.”
“We believe in the right of every adult to choose to use cannabis, and we fight to change laws that perpetuate the failed prohibition policies of the past.”
“I would end the war on drugs and eliminate all laws against drug use, including marijuana. People should be free to make their own choices, including what they put into their bodies.”
-Jacob Hornberger (Libertarian candidate for president)
“Legalizing marijuana is about respecting individual freedoms, addressing the harms caused by prohibition, and generating revenue for public programs through taxation of cannabis sales.
-Howie Hawkins (Green Party candidate for president)
SPORTS AGENCIES AND COMMITTEES
"The USOPC is committed to the health and safety of our athletes and supports an open discussion about cannabis, its benefits, and its use."
"While we recognize the changing attitudes toward cannabis, USADA remains committed to enforcing rules that prohibit its use in sports. We are open to reviewing these policies in light of new scientific evidence."
Several major sports leagues have recently adjusted their policies regarding cannabis use:
NBA: The National Basketball Association suspended random drug testing for cannabis during the COVID-19 pandemic and has continued to allow players to use cannabis without facing disciplinary action since then.
NFL: The National Football League updated its collective bargaining agreement to stop suspensions for positive cannabis tests. The league has implemented a more lenient testing policy that limits testing to the first two weeks of training camp, with a higher threshold for a positive test.
MLB: Major League Baseball has also moved away from punishing players for cannabis use, effectively removing marijuana from its list of banned substances.
NHL: The National Hockey League does not test for cannabis during the offseason and has emphasized a more supportive approach for players dealing with substance use issues.
WNBA: The Women's National Basketball Association has similarly suspended its cannabis testing during the pandemic and has continued with relaxed policies.
Professional Fighters League (PFL): The PFL has also indicated a move toward more lenient cannabis policies, reflecting the broader trend in sports.
