REPORT

1. Objective: To help the students to have a clear idea of the importance of British Rule in Assam.

2. Target group: Students of Semester- I, III & IV

3. Significance of the event: It is a well-known fact that the British ruled India for nearly two centuries. The also expanded their rule to Assam. With the signing of the Treaty of Yandaboo, the rule of the British started in Assam. No doubt, there was British domination in every aspect of the administration. The natural resources of Assam were utilized for the benefit of the English and revenue was collected ignoring the interest of the people of the province of Assam. Simultaneously, various measures adopted by the English were proved to be beneficial for the province. So, in this platform an attempt will be made to find out the positive aspects of British rule in Assam.

4. Description of the Programme: The Departmental Seminar was chaired by Mrs. Anuva Agrawala, HOD, Political Science. The Principal i/c of the day Mr.Munindra Baishya was invited as the Chief Guest of the seminar. Altogether 7 teachers and 62 students were present in the seminar. The well come address was delivered by Mr.Munindra Baishya, the Principal i/c of the day. In his deliberation, Mr.Baishya sir welcomed all and discussed various aspects of administrative reforms made by the Britsh and also various good steps adopted by them in Assam. Mrs.Anuva Agarwala, HOD, Political Science, Dr.Pradip Barman, HOD, History, Mr.Lohi Ch Baishya, Asstt.Professor, Dept. of Political Science elaborately discussed all aspects of the British rule in Assam. The students showed satisfactory performance in the seminar. It has come to light that the British rule in Assam was of much importance. The discovery of tea & establishment of railway in Assam provided a new direction in the economy of Assam. The contribution of the Missionary in the field of literature and education were also praiseworthy. The interaction between teachers and students was also a fruitful one.

5. Outcome of the Programme: The seminar on British Administrative Policy & Reforms from 1858 to 1947 has enabled the students to know about the nature of British administrative policies and various reforms brought in the field of administration, education etc. It also helped the students to grow a leadership quality and public speaking skills of the students.

6. Suggestions: It is a fact that the participation of the students of Under Graduate in the seminars has become an important part of education. It increases the understanding capacity of a particular field and also it helps to make the outspoken. So, such kind of seminars on course related topics should be organized in future.

REPORT

1. Objective: To enhance the public speaking skill and the understanding capacity of the students.

2. Target group: Students of Semester-I, III & V.

3. Significance of the event: The students acquired the knowledge of the importance of British Rule in India.

4. Description of the programme: The programme was organized to build the understanding capacity of the students on the British administration in India and its importance. The British Rule in India had its importance in various fields. During the British rule, English education was introduced and reforms in different aspects were brought. The infrastructural development was also experienced. On the other hand, in the period of this foreign rule in India, the Indians had to suffer a lot economically and socially. It is a well-known fact that the main motive of the English had to earn money without considering the economic condition of the Indians. So, new taxes were imposed and the same was collected forcefully. The Indians also faced the problem of racial discrimination. In the departmental seminar all these issues were reflected and teachers helped the students to clear their doubts and they also advised the students for modifications in their writings.

5. Outcome of the Programme: The Departmental seminar on Role of Parliament in Indian Democracy and The Importance of British Rule in Assam enables the students to know about various administrative policies adopted by the British Govt. in India and their importance. The importance of British rule in Assam also has helped the students to know the

6. Suggestions: Though the seminar helped the students to understand the importance of British Rule in India, for better understanding of the same such seminar on the same topic is to be organized. It may also be noted that the organization of seminar for students is essential for developing the speaking and communication skill of the students. So, such type of programme for students is to be organized in future.
