Welcome to Delta Beta's Biennium: 2024-2026
Delta Beta hosted our spring meeting at the Burwell Historic School site in Hillsborough, NC.
DKG/ Delta Beta members who have 40-50+ years with DKG were honored with flowers, a wooden gavel and block and a sharing of their outstanding biographies. Two teachers who were awarded the Novice Teacher grants attended as well. We enjoyed a festive dinner at Antonia's in Hillsborough.

We are gathering to "create stories and memories of our female ancestors". March is Women's History Month and daylight savings time when "we honor the lengthening of the outer light".
...to our female ancestors and "don't be surprised if she starts sending you messages".
Dutchess' Grandmother
Eula Grey Kornegay Cannon

Photo displayed in Ayden, S.C. library
Click here for Eula Grey's biography written by her children.
This biography is a treasured piece of literature...the descriptions reflect an era and a personality so unique yet astonishingly identifiable. Eula Grey Cannon lives in many of our grandmothers, and I proudly find pieces of her in my own soul. DKG member
See text above for her biography
Named after her grandmother, Nan explained how her beloved ancestor started a sorority based on charitable works..similar to DKG.
Her mother had 8 siblings, and she dedicated her life to taking care of her siblings, teaching and raising Aileen.
Dora Hanson worked hard her whole life and had a "superior Alto voice. She used to sing The Old Rugged Cross. "When I hear the words to that song, it brings tears to my eyes...".
Special feature for March 12th meeting:
Meet the teachers who were awarded Delta Beta's Novice Teacher Grant. We look forward to applauding their initiative in advocating on behalf of their students. Excited to meet them!
Time Travel and Tea On Sunday, March 12, at 3:00, we will gather at the historic Burwell School in Hillsborough for a journey into the past, present, and future. Did you know that March is Women’s History Month? What a wonderful opportunity this gives us to honor our female ancestors whose voices may not have been heard in their lifetimes. By writing down the stories of our grandmothers, aunts, mothers, or other female family members, we become their voices and vessels in the present. My hope is that we can compile a booklet of these stories to inspire and enlighten current and future educators. Paper and pen will be provided, but you may bring your own journal if you prefer. Ann Loomis will be the facilitator and editor of this creative project. Tea and other refreshments will be offered.
CONGRATULATIONS DELORES SIMPSON
WE ARE SOOO PROUD OF OUR DKG SISTER, DELORES!
A lifetime of Justice, Compassion, Advocacy and Leadership paved the way for this very moment for Delores: February 26, 2023. Delores was awarded the distinguished Pauli Murray award in front of a jubilant audience that packed the Whitted Building in Hillsborough, N.C. DKG leader and friend, Betty Eidenier nominated Delores for this award and then had the honor of reading her introduction to a standing ovation. It was a joyous occasion as well as a call to action for all of us to continue the life's work of Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray as she stated: " “I intend to destroy segregation by positive and embracing methods. When my brothers try to draw a circle to exclude me, I shall draw a larger circle to include them."
We LOVE our DKG sisters!
Thank you note from our DKG sister
