Class overview

Pharmacy Technician is a hands-on healthcare course that builds on the skills learned in Introduction to Healthcare Science and Essentials of Healthcare. In this class, students move from general healthcare knowledge into a specialized focus on pharmacy careers, medication safety, pharmacy law, dosage calculations, and medication administration skills used in both retail and clinical settings.

Students will explore prescription and over-the-counter medications, drug classifications, pharmacy operations, and federal and state regulations such as the DEA and Controlled Substances Act. Through simulations, lab activities, and real-world applications, students will develop the knowledge, professionalism, and technical skills needed for future healthcare careers and potential preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) through the PTCB when eligible.
