The first exploration of suicide was in Degrassi High, and it involves the character Claude Tanner. Claude was the boyfriend of one of the show’s main characters, Caitlin Ryan. The two break up after he left her to get caught by the police for vandalism. In subsequent episodes, he tries to win her back, but all his efforts fail.
His story ends in the two-part special “Showtime.” In "Showtime (1)", Claude makes a final attempt to gain back Caitlin’s affection, which she declines. He then brings a gun to school, and a shot can be heard in the background of a scene where several characters are in class. Snake, another student, asks to go to the restroom, where he finds Claude’s body.
