For a while, his mood brightens, and he is doing better. However, the pressure brought on by his hockey team continues to weigh on him. He loses an important game for his team, which leads his teammates to treat him worse than before. One teammate says he will make Cam’s life hell if he loses the next game. Following the interaction, Cam experiences a panic attack and cuts himself with his skate. Hockey has become the thing he dreads every day. He resorts to skipping school and jumps off a balcony inside of the school, breaking his arm, so he does not have to play for several weeks. 

On top of this pressure, he is struggling to balance the different roles he plays as a teammate, boyfriend, and student. Cam’s grades are much lower than normal, causing him to seek tutoring, and his girlfriend confronts him about being uninterested in her. Following this, among other events, he confides in his tutor, saying that he wishes he could fall asleep and never wake up. She tells him to patch things up with his girlfriend. 

In his last episode, Cam does work things out with Maya, but the next morning he texts Maya "I'm not coming. Sorry. It's over." (Barckert & Williams, 2013). She takes this as a breakup message, but his body is later found in the school’s greenhouse by two students, Eli and Clare. Eli has Bipolar I, a mood disorder characterized by one or more episodes of mania and, in cases like Eli’s, episodes of depression. Following Cam's death, he enters a depression episode.
