Lesson Plan Development and Teaching Training for Flight Instructors
Objective:
The purpose of this training is to build upon knowledge of defense mechanisms by creating a lesson plan for private pilot students. This activity will assess knowledge of defense mechanisms, measure effectiveness of teaching methods through peer feedback, and help create a practical tool that can be utilized with students.
Create a lesson plan that can be utilized in flight training for private pilots.
Connect material learned into a useable teaching aid.
Assess lesson plan effectiveness through peer review.
Biblical Perspective:
Throughout this activity, instructors will have to include an area of biblical intergration into their lesson plan. This will make instructors think critically about how lesson plans can reflect biblical principles and how to integrate it into their teaching. Through the creation of a lesson plan, instructors are urged to analyze and process all materials through a biblical lens. When producing your lesson plan, focus on having integrity and producing quality work that is your own. Proverbs 10:9 says "Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out" (English Standard Version, 2011). While creating this lesson plan, meditate on Proverbs 10:9 and remember how integrity is so important when producing quality work for your students.
Activity Description:
This activity will require instructors to create a lesson plan on Defense Mechanisms for a Private Pilot Student. This activity requires instructors to use references and materials, create completion standards using the ACS. They also will have to develop their own curriculum on defense mechanism in order to properly meet the ACS standards while using visual aids or resources to aid in student learning, and have student and instructor actions. From there, they will teach their lesson to a fellow CFI who will critique the lesson using a rubric, and offer feedback. Both instructors will teach and recieve feedback from their fellow peer. Lastly, the entire group will engage in discussion questions that will help wrap up the activity and give them a chance to properly debrief what they learned.
Practical Activity:
Utilize the link below as the first resource, this will go over all the instructions and details for each participant to go over the lesson plan activity. Make sure each person has their own handout, and a printed copy is recommended.
Lesson Plan Template:
Utilize this link as a template to creating the lesson plan. This template does not have to be used, but can be helpful as a starting point in order to create your own lesson. Download this document, and create a copy in order to edit it. You can either do it digitally, or printed.
