Welcome! My name is Deborah Dyer and I am a digital learning specialist for the Epping School District in Epping, New Hampshire.
I have been an educator since 2008, teaching 8th grade mathematics and algebra before moving to my current role in 2016. As an enthusiastic and unapologetic tech nerd, I always sought out new ways to integrate technology in my classroom to provide dynamic learning experiences for my students. When the opportunity to embrace my love of technology and transition to my current role as a digital learning specialist presented itself, I was worried that I would miss my time in the classroom with students and the immense joy I felt at those "lightbulb moments," when transformative learning happens. However, I underestimated how rewarding it would be to have those moments with my colleagues, too. For the past seven years, I have had the opportunity to marry my love of technology with my love of teaching every day--and I couldn't be happier about it.
You can never be sure how something will work out if you don't try it. Growing as an educator requires some risk-taking. In the summer of 2019, I set out on a solo road trip to visit some national parks out west. I was nervous and unsure because I had never done something like that before and I had no idea how it would work out. Yet, as you can see from my photo, my first hike in Yellowstone National Park was rewarded with an incredible view and a profound feeling of accomplishment that I would have missed out on if I hadn't been willing to challenge myself. As a technology coach, it is my goal to inspire and support teachers to be risk-takers when bringing technology into their classrooms.
