I am always looking for classes, webinars, and anything else I can do to improve and learn as a librarian. I have taken all the @one classes that deal with teaching online and course design. Right now I am pouring over all the information that all the colleges in the LACCD district have introduced after the death of George Floyd and the protests over summer. I think it is important that colleges pay attention to the diversity of their campuses and constantly reach out, listen, and find ways to make the learning institutions supportive to everyone.
I was just a student in the online learning class environment before. I learned how important it is to have an online presence, connect with your students, and let them know you are available to help and will be supportive in their educational journey.
I am heading into the Fall 2020 semester as a first time online teacher. I am very excited and I feel ready and up for the challenge thanks to my @one courses and teachers.
I hope I get to keep teaching online classes and finally get a full time librarian job along the way. I plan on taking more webinars, learning new online teaching technologies, and continuing to practice and strengthen the skills I learned in my @one online teaching courses.
This is an example from the @one course 10 10 10 communication. In this class we learned how to reach out to students and make an impact in 10 seconds, 10 minutes, and 10 days. This is an example of a email that can be mailed to the student before the class starts in order to reach out and initiate a first contact and let them know how to contact me if they have questions.
This is an example from the Accessible course design class. In this class we went over how to make everything accessible for people with disabilities, such as providing closed caption in videos, giving alt-text to pictures, and making sure that everything can be read by screen reader.
This is an example of how to develop and design your course. This template is structured to make sure that you are obtaining your student learning outcome goals with every module, assignment, and tool that you use. There are also assessments built in to make sure that you can measure whether the students did in fact learn the SLO's that you designed the course to accomplish.
